Upgrades for Sturges-Young

Lighting at Sturges-Young Auditorium will get an upgrade by late November, following action Monday by Sturgis City Commission.

Commissioners approved the purchase of stage LED lighting equipment and installation from Stage Lighting & Sound for $115,000.

In addition, the electrical system will be updated to separate lighting from the rest of the wiring at the auditorium. Current fixtures are original to the building and contain asbestos.

Money for the projects will come from several funding sources, including a grant of $25,000 from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and an additional $25,000 grant from the Sturgis Area Community Foundation.
