Kenneth D. Johnson, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017. He was born in Stockville, NE on January 19, 1927, the son of Jonas A and Ethel (Gugelman) Johnson.
Kenneth married Alice (Thomas) on February 5, 1949. They had three girls, Janet Hoffmann (Karl), Connie Daurer (Jan), and Patricia Dick (Stan). He had 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He has a surviving sister June Williamson (Gene) and brother, Ronald Johnson
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife Alice, sister Barbara Lau and Bob Lau spouse, brother Gerald Johnson & Mary Johnson, spouse, Lucy Johnson, sister in law and three nephews.
Ken graduated from Elkhart High School in June 1945, joined the US Army and served in Germany at the end of WWII and was honorably discharged.
Ken completed his plumbing and pipefitting apprenticeship in 1948 and was in Local 172 South Bend as a member and instructor and later worked in Local 68 in Houston, TX from which he retired in 1992. Ken was also an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in South Bend, IN. Ken and Alice enjoyed traveling and spent winters in Christmas, FL.
Funeral Services will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church, 1133 Kilbourn St, Elkhart, IN on October 27 at 11 am.
Memorials in Kenneth’s name should be sent to Local 172 JATC, 4172 Ralph Jones Ct. South Bend, IN 46628 for financial aid to students in the apprenticeship program.
