Public hears plans for future COA

The St. Joseph County Commission On Aging gave the public its first opportunity to sit in on a meeting related to future plans of the former Three Rivers Inn.

Staged Thursday at the West Broadway Street site, the meeting included Michael Flynn, vice president at Byce & Associates, an architectural and engineering firm, to present site and floor plans. He was joined by Greg Dedes, vice president of Frederick Construction of Vicksburg.

Topics of discussion included the kitchen, where meals for residents, COA members and the Meals on Wheels program are to be prepared; a community garden; walking trails, and how to make the former hotel feel like home.

Current plans call for four two-bedroom units, with about 50 units in all. A projected move-in date of late 2018 has been adopted.

  1. Actually the public didn’t. We only seem to hear about these after the fact. Transparency isn’t this area’s long suit.
