Traffic stop leads to arrests

Three teenagers were charged with a variety of offenses after they were found to be in possession of stolen firearms and burglary tools.

According to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, a minivan was stopped around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday on Liberty Street near Michigan Avenue in Three Rivers for a moving violation.

While on the stop, the deputy observed a male passenger acting in a suspicious manner. The deputy then noticed a firearm under the passenger’s leg and large knife at his side.

A vehicle search turned up two stolen rifles along with stolen collectible coins and burglary tools.

Deputies then went to a residence in the 100 block of North Andrews Street, where they executed a search warrant.

During the search, deputies located two stolen handguns, more coins and a large amount of ammunition.

A 17-year old male, a17-year-old female, and an 18-year-old man, all from Three Rivers, were charged with receiving and concealing stolen property, a CCW violation and possession of burglary tools.
