Walter entered the world on November 20, 1932 and entered heaven on the same date, November 20, 2017.
Walter J. Mroczek I, passed away peacefully in his home in Marcellus on his 85th birthday. His loving wife of 61 years, Joan Walsh Mroczek, was by his side.
Walter was well known for his capacity to work hard and was proud to pass that ability to each of his six surviving children, Walter II, Sandie, Laura Witten (Rodney), William, Bob and Raymond (Cynthia). He was the grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Walter started his farming career with his mother, Jennie Paszik Solak. He went on to build a construction business with his brother, Henry. They built highways from Decatur to Lansing. Later, they went on to establish Mroczek Sod Farm which is carried on by Walt’s sons. While raising their 6 children Walt and Joan’s joy was farming grapes, corn, asparagus and raising cattle. One of Walt’s long time dreams was to build and run a motel. The Mroczek Inn of Paw Paw was the result of that dream. It was a family run business for 12 years.
During all of these wonderful accomplishments, his loving wife, Joan, was by his side supporting and helping achieve these dreams.
In his later years, Walt enjoyed raising chickens, running his bulldozer and improving Goff Lake for his family to enjoy, which they do.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Donor’s Choice. Online condolences may be left at www.materralstonfuneralhome. com
