Constantine discusses medical marijuana ordinance

A proposed village medical marijuana ordinance was discussed briefly at Monday’s Constantine Village Council meeting.

The discussion relates to the council’s special meeting Dec. 12, when council members considered whether to adopt the ordinance. Initially it passed, 5-2, but after further discussion was rescinded, also by a 5-2 vote. Council members decided it would be easier to start with a lower number of facilities, then possibly increase the number, as opposed to starting with an unlimited number of facilities and decrease or remove them if desired.

Trustees agreed there should be a policy or stated parameters for selecting facilities.

Village president Gary Mathers said there are no plans to study the issue now, but not because of lack of interest.

A copy of the proposed medical marijuana ordinance is available online at www.constantinemi.info.
