The Cass County sheriff’s department responded to a two-vehicle accident Christmas Eve that sent three people to the hospital, including a 10-month-old baby.
Authorities said Rayvon Collins, 28, of Niles, was traveling westbound on U.S. 12 when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line, hitting Vanessa Vela, 24, of Elkhart, head-on. Three people were taken to the hospital as a result, including a 22-year-old in Collins’ vehicle, plus Bernardino Vela, 50, in the other vehicle. A 10-month-old in Vela’s vehicle was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
Seat belts were worn and intoxicants are not a factor in the crash.
Both weather and road conditions were a factor, authorities said.
