John Oster award goes to Patty Davidson

Sturgis High School teacher Patty Davidson has been named the 2017 John E. Oster award winner. The honor is handed out yearly for teaching excellence at Sturgis Public Schools and is given out by the Sturgis Rotary Club.

Davidson has taught at SPS since 1987 and has shown innovation and success teaching classes like Women’s Fitness and Self Defense, Life Sports and Physical Education along with Marriage and Parenting, where she introduced “Baby-Think-It-Over” which required each of her students to spend a weekend being responsible for an imitation baby.

Patty and her husband, Matt, are longtime volunteers for St. Joseph County United Way and served as co-chairs for the 2010 campaign.

The John Oster Memorial Fund was established in 1981 by JoEllen Oster to provide a permanent endowment to recognize teaching excellence in the Sturgis Public School system. Davidson is the 37th recipient of the award.
