Local goal exceeded – Make-A-Wish Foundation

A retired Constantine High School teacher hoping to raise about $30 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation more than exceeded her goal thanks to a current Centreville Elementary School teacher.

Former English teacher Mary Grunert said she lucked out when she asked former student Lisa Dentler for help with the “Letters To Santa” project, sponsored by Macy’s.

Dentler, is a sixth-grade teacher at Centreville Elementary School. She explained that Macy’s will make a donation of $1 for every letter it receives as part of the fundraiser.

Not only did Dentler get her classes involved, but she invited her fellow teachers at the school to have their students participate. In the end, more than 500 letters were written over a two-day period last week.

Grunert, a Three Rivers resident, stopped by to pick up the letters Thursday and expressed her gratitude to Dentler and Centreville Elementary.
