Roger Rathburn dies in accident

Roger Rathburn, superintendent at Mendon Community Schools, died Tuesday as a result of injuries stemming from an accident at Sauganash Golf Club.

Police personnel were called to the golf club about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after Rathburn was found on the ground by family members. They said it appears Rathburn was on a ladder, cutting branches from a tree more than 15 feet in the air. He was alone at the time of the accident and it’s not known whether he was knocked off the ladder or if the ladder gave way.

Rathburn, 55, was in his third year as superintendent at Mendon. He retired in June 2014 after serving 13 years as superintendent of Three Rivers Community Schools. Over the span of his 18-year career in Three Rivers, he served as assistant principal and principal as well.
