Suspect arrested on multiple charges after police pursuit

St. Joseph County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man over the weekend following what authorities called a police pursuit.

The incident started shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday on Heimbach Road near Angevine Road in Mendon Township, where deputies attempted to stop a pickup with a registration violation.

The driver failed to stop and continued driving for about 10 minutes before fleeing on foot in an area on North Fisher Lake Road near Lowe Road in Park Township.

With the help of Three Rivers canine Jake, the man was apprehended. Deputies discovered marijuana inside the truck.

The suspect, whose age and community of residence was not stated in a department media release, was charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, and possession of marijuana.
