Vandalism at Riverside Cemetery

Officers from the Three Rivers Police Department are investigating an act of vandalism that occurred last week at Riverside Cemetery.

Sexton Richard Clements said damage to more than 20 headstones took place Wednesday and was discovered the next day.

He said stone pillars were toppled, other markers were defaced and even some in-ground limestone markers more than a century old were damaged. Clements noted the damage will likely exceed $200,000.

He vows to work diligently to find the culprits and said he would like to see whomever is responsible serve community service under his watch in the cemetery.

Three Rivers police officials said the situation remains under investigation.
