Colon discusses new village office

The village of Colon appears to be in the market for a new village office.

During Tuesday’s village council meeting, the idea of replacing the current, 50-year-old double-wide structure was discussed. Talks were spurred by the fact the furnace at the current village office broke down two weeks ago and employees have worked there sporadically with the benefit of space heaters.

Village manager Mike Mitchell, however, said the cold air has caused the office computers’ server to malfunction, prompting him and office manager Ashley Staecker to spend some of their workday in the adjacent Colon Township office.

Council members discussed a possible location of a new double-wide modular office, and Mitchell said it would likely sit to the east of the township office.

Additional discussion about the concept awaits the village council, which met Tuesday at the township hall.
