Members of the St. Joseph County Road Commission Board recently agreed to purchase two new trucks.
The new vehicles are a one-ton pickup truck with a dump box and one three-quarter ton pickup for a total cost of just under $77,000.
Agency officials said the larger truck will pull the department’s chip sealer, allowing personnel to carry the tar right in front of the kettle and constantly feed the machine that seals cracks.
As a result of the purchases, the road commission will sell three vehicles: a 1989 truck and two 1994 trucks.
