St. Joseph County’s first baby of the new year was born Monday at Sturgis Hospital.
Meanwhile, staff at Three Rivers Health had to wait an additional day but its first arrival of 2018 came Tuesday.
Jazelyn Peyton May Deter was born at 8:32 p.m. New Year’s Day at Sturgis Hospital. She is the daughter of Sturgis residents Crystal Sue May Draper and Dale Deter.
The baby’s early arrival was a surprise, as she was not due until Jan. 10, her mother said.
Likewise, Ellie Mac Larink was an early arrival. Though not due until Jan. 14, the young lady arrived Tuesday at Three Rivers Health.
Born at 8:15 a.m., she is the daughter of Lydia and Mike Larink, and is the couple’s first child together.
