Margie N. Barrington, age 79, of Burr Oak, passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
She was born Aug. 5, 1938, in Watermans Front, Texas, a daughter to the late Robert and Gladys (Lawrence) Evans.
Margie graduated from Carthage, Texas High School in 1956 and went to Shreveport, La., to business college and graduated an 18 month course in 15 months.
On Nov. 9, 1958, in Watermans Front, Texas she married Robert L. “Bob” Barrington. He preceded her in death Sept. 26, 2008.
Margie and Bob moved to Burr Oak in 1965 and she was employed by Doerr Products for nine years and then Century Bank & Trust for 19 years, retiring in 2001.
Margie was an active member and past treasurer of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church. She was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, secretary and treasurer for Burr Oak Chamber of Commerce for over 20 years, treasurer of Burr Oak Library since 2001, treasurer of Old Fashioned Fun Festival, past board member of the Kastco Credit Union in Sturgis, and past financial secretary of the #1478 I.A.M. Union.
Margie enjoyed laughter and spending time with her family, friends, and people in general as she never met a stranger.
Surviving are two sons, Timothy (Elizabeth) Barrington and Kenneth (Penny) Barrington both of Burr Oak; four grandchildren, Michael (Jamie) Downs, Andrew (Danielle) Downs, Christopher Downs, and Rebecca (Ryan) Peterson; 13 great-grandchildren, Maverick, Wyatt, Leila, Myla, Gunnar, Grady, Garrett, Sierra, Landon, Kyler, Makenzie, Jayce, and Amber; three brothers, Robbie (Joy) Evans, Sam (Wanda) Evans, and Dennis (Angela) Evans; two sisters, LaNell Jernigan and Brenda (Bill) Hutto; two sister-in-laws, Resa Evans and Kat Evans; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; and three brothers, Dale, Ovid, and Jimmy Evans.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Margie N. Barrington will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the Burr Oak United Methodist Church, 206 W. Main St., Burr Oak, MI 49030. The Rev. John Sterner will officiate. A luncheon will immediately follow the services in the church fellowship hall.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Burr Oak United Methodist Church or the Burr Oak Library, envelopes are available at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis who have been entrusted with the arrangements.
