Robert or Bob as most of his friends called him, entered the University of Illinois, Urbana, in 1948, and graduated with a BS in mechanical engineering in 1952. In Milwaukee, Bob began his professional career working in industrial sales for Cutler Hammer before joining his father, Leslie, and brother, Roger, at Drew & Carr in the advertising world. In 1969, Bob left advertising to own and run a plastics firm, Leon Bush Manufacturing. Bob was also an active member in The Church of the Holy Comforter and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. In May of 2017 Bob sold the family home and relocated close to family in Three Rivers, which is also where the family and Bob enjoyed reunions for the past 20 years.
