Flooding poses electricity dangers

The Indiana-Michigan Power company is cautioning customers and the public to use extreme caution because of flooding.

In the event waters rise around your home or business, do not go into any room or basement if water is covering appliance cords that are plugged in, or if the water has reached the wall outlets.

Additionally, company officials said to not walk into a room if there is a popping or buzzing sound. Also, never go into a basement with standing water unless you are positive the electricity is off.

And, if water rises to your electric meter base or the wall outlets, call AEP at 800-311-6424 to have power disconnected.
