Commissioners approve disc golf agreement

St. Joseph County’s board of commissioners has approved an agreement with the city of Sturgis regarding a disc golf course.

The contract, endorsed by commissioners Tuesday, centers on a plan to develop an 18-hole disc golf course at Cade Lake County Park in Fawn River Township.

The city of Sturgis is working with the county and financially supporting the recreational amenity. County commissioners reiterated Tuesday that nearly all the funding for development of the project is being borne by the city. The county will incur a minor investment in labor only, and will also be responsible for maintenance, repair and operation of the course.

According to the agreement, the course will be completed before the end of summer. Also, the city will reimburse St. Joseph County $12,500 on or before June 1 for construction-related expenses.
