Constantine looks to place school resource officer

Constantine municipal officials plan to work with the local school district to install a resource officer at Constantine schools on a full-time basis.

Village manager Mark Honeysett said he has had conversations with superintendent Steve Wilson and a representative from Michigan Fraternal Order of Police, and plans are to draft a contract to provide an officer for the position.

If arrangements can be made, Constantine Public Schools will finance most of the expenses, including salary, benefits, uniform and health insurance, Honeysett said. The police department will likely be responsible for investigations or activities unrelated to the duties of a school resource officer.

Wilson said if the plan for a full-time resource officer comes to pass, there will be an armed officer on campus at all times.
