Indiana Michigan Power’s commitment to greener energy earned it the designation as a 2018 “Environmental Champion” from a study by Market Strategies International.
I&M is one of just 43 utility companies in the country given the distinction. To become an Environmental Champion, a utility needs to demonstrate to customers its dedication to supporting the environment by promoting clean energy, empowering consumption management, aiding environmental causes, boosting environmentally friendly vehicles and buildings, and looking for ways to protect the environment.
According to company officials, I&M currently offers several energy-saving programs, including IM Home and rebates on LED lighting.
In 2017, two-thirds of the energy generated by I&M came from emission-free sources, including the Cook Nuclear Plant, four solar-generation plants, six hydroelectric plants and three wind generation plants.
