Michael Romig, 66

Michael J Romig, age 66, of Milton Township in Niles, passed away late in the evening Tuesday, April 24, 2018, in the comfort of his own home. Michael was born September 9, 1951, in Three Rivers, the son of Eugene F. Romig and Emma M. (McKenzie) Romig.

Michael was previously married to Lori Romig. On May 19, 2006 he married Jennifer S. (Churchill) Romig in Cassopolis. To many he was known as Mike, Pa, and Papa. Mike graduated from Marcellus High School and went to further his education to be an Electronic Fiber Optic Engineer with the telephone company and eventually worked as a welder at Fab Masters in Marcellus.

He enjoyed spending most of his time in the great outdoors, fishing, or staying on a house boat at Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee. He was a huge fan of sports especially University of Michigan football. He was heavily involved in the community volunteering as an EMT and with the Marcellus Fire Department for over fourteen years, volunteered as an EMT at the Special Olympics, and coached along with umpired for the local softball games.

He is survived by his wife Jennifer S. Romig, one daughter: Gwen Romig of Marcellus, one son: Brett Romig of Marcellus, two wonderful grandchildren: Zade Tyszka and Teagan Tyszka, two sisters: Bonnie (Romig) Wilmore of Marcellus and Linda (Romig) Haas of Elkhart, many nieces and nephews, and Lori Romig of Hawaii.

The family will welcome friends for a visitation service at Newburg (Poes) Baptist Church on Friday, April 27, 2018, at 1 PM. The service will follow at 2 PM. Pastor Mike Owen will be officiating. The burial of cremains will follow at Marcellus Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Marcellus School Athletics or Marcellus Fire and Ambulance Department.
