Paving project begins in Branch County

Michigan Department of Transportation will begin a major repaving project next week in Branch County.

Ten miles of U.S. 12 between Bronson and Coldwater will start Monday morning.

Construction includes removing the bridge over the Indiana Northeastern Railroad, installing concrete curb and gutter, upgrading guardrails, improving drainage, and new signs and pavement markings.

The $2.4 million investment will improve ride quality and safety for motorists by providing better sight distances and a smoother riding surface. The bridge removal also will help improve traction in inclement weather.

There will be single-lane closures on US-12 under flag control during repaving. While the bridge is being removed, traffic will be detoured on Snow Prairie Road and M-86.

The anticipated completion date is July 30.
