Sturgis Board approves superintendent contract

Sturgis Public Schools Board of Education has reached a contract agreement with Art Ebert, incoming superintendent.

During Monday’s board meeting, its members voted unanimously to approve Ebert’s contract.

Board president Ann Bird said the sides agreed to a three-year contract, similar in total to the amount that was paid in the last contract for recently-retired Tom Langdon. His last 12-month contract saw his salary around $130,000 a year.

Bird said the contract was reviewed and revised by Lisa Swem at Thrun Law Office.

Ebert also said it’s his goal to meet individually with each board member between now and July 1. He requests that each board member bring three priorities. He also spoke about planning a board retreat to take place sometime in July.

Ebert had spent time earlier in the day taking tours of Eastwood Elementary and Sturgis Middle School with his wife and sons. Ebert over the past three years has served as deputy superintendent and executive director for human resources for West Bloomfield Schools, in the Detroit suburbs.
