Sturgis teacher sentenced

A Sturgis school teacher initially charged with fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct was sentenced last week by St. Joseph County Circuit Court Judge Paul Stutesman.

Keith Lang was sentenced to four days with credit for time served and assessed $358 in court costs. In February, Lang pleaded no contest to one count of aggravated indecent exposure. As part of the plea agreement, Lang relinquished his teaching certificate and must register as a sex offender.

St. Joseph County prosecutor John McDonough said he is satisfied with the outcome of the case, noting it went as expected.

Lang has been free on $150,000 bail since his arrest in January 2017.

He was originally charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, possession and distribution of child sexually abusive material, sharing sexually explicit material with minors and using a computer to commit a crime. Those charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
