Barbara Hazelwood, 90

Barbara G. Hazelwood, age 90, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick, Ga.
She was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Burr Oak, a daughter of the late Floyd and Florence (Bonner) Lutz.
Barbara was a lifelong Sturgis resident and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1945.
In 1972, she married Henry Hazelwood in Sudbury, Mass. He preceded her in death in 2006.
Barbara retired from Sturgis Public Schools following 36 years of dedicated employment as secretary to the superintendent.
She was a league bowler and had participated in many national bowling tournaments throughout the U.S. She was an avid reader and enjoyed attending antiques sales and loved time spent with her family. One of Barbara’s favorite memories was the annual travels to the East Coast to celebrate Christmas with and be surrounded by family.
She is survived by a sister and her husband, Janice and George Greene of St. Simons Island, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Martin Lutz.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis.
A memorial service celebrating and honoring the life of Barbara Hazelwood will take place at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Jeanne Garza of First United Methodist Church of Sturgis will officiate. A graveside committal of the ashes will follow the service at Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.
