Happel awarded math scholarship

Glen Oaks Community College has awarded Mendon High School’s Megan Happel the Professor Emeritus B. Swartz Scholarship for Excellence in Mathematics.

Happel graduated with an associate of general studies degree during Glen Oaks’ graduation May 4, prior to receiving her high school diploma from Mendon on June 3.

She plans to attend Michigan Technical University this fall to study engineering management and electrical engineering.

The $1,000 Swartz Scholarship is awarded to a Glen Oaks student with an outstanding record in mathematic courses. Happel was recommended for the scholarship by Glen Oaks mathematics instructors.

Under terms of the scholarship created through a donation by Bernard Swartz, a former professor of mathematics at Glen Oaks Community College, the student must be transferring to a four-year university after graduating from Glen Oaks.
