Hazel C. Ray, age 92, of Mendon, died Friday, May 25, 2018 at Heartland Healthcare Center in Three Rivers. She was born in Sturgis on Oct. 8, 1925 the daughter of George Albert Taylor and France Marie (Lampe) Taylor. She graduated from Sturgis High School with the Class of 1944. Hazel was married to Keith Ray on Oct. 26, 1946, and they moved to Mendon in 1948. Hazel was a farm wife, and also was employed as a Clerk for the Mendon Post Office for 24 years. Hazel enjoyed fishing, mushrooming, and gardening, especially growing roses. She was a Mendon Sports Booster, watching her children and grandchildren in all sports. She was also a Boston Celtics and Larry Bird fan.
Hazel is survived by six children, Phil (Donna) Ray of Parchment, Mary Lou (Brent) Leighton of Three Rivers, Jerry (Jane Morrow) Ray, Rob (Cindy) Ray, and David (Charlotte) Ray all of Mendon, and Patti (Jack Bargo) Colasanti of Richland; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her husband, Keith in 2011.
In keeping with her wishes cremation has been conducted. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the West Mendon Community Church, 22994 Portage Lake Road, Mendon, MI 49072, with Interim Pastor, Richard Ely officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services and following services over brunch at the church.
