Richard Edward Labadie, age 73, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018, at his home.
He was born Feb. 9, 1945, in Wyandotte, Mich., son of the late John R. and Hilda (Hill) Labadie.
Richard resided in Sturgis for the past 25 years coming from Marcellus and his early life was lived in the Detroit area.
On Dec. 5, 1964, he married Lorraine Wozniak in River Rouge, Mich. She died July 12, 2015.
Most all of Richard’s working life was as a metallurgist and he retired in 2003 from American Axle in Three Rivers.
He was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis and enjoyed reading, feeding the birds and was a longtime loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions and the Michigan Wolverines.
He is survived by his children: Vincent (Nicholle) Labadie of Britton, Stephanie (Bruce) Boyer of Paw Paw, Regina (Mike) Shettler of Martin and Nicolaus (Tracy) Labadie of Three Rivers; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Rosemary Garell of Seattle, Washington and Jane (Paul) Bronni of Taylor; two brothers: John (Kitty) Labadie of Rochester and Tom (Barb) Labadie of Canadian Lakes and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters: Pat Merrick and Betty Linehart.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Angels Catholic Church, 402 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis where the Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Ricard Edward Labadie will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Father Evelio Ramirez will officiate. In accordance with Richard’s wishes cremation will follow the Mass.
