Sheriff’s department updates wake order on lakes

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department has removed postings at the county’s public accesses, where boaters had been requested to reduce their wake.

Water levels remain high on many county lakes, however, and operators of boats and personal watercraft should be aware that if they are operating in a manner that causes property damage, they may still be subject to penalties under state statue for damage done as a result of reckless operation.

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol started its 2018 season over the weekend.
