White Pigeon community move-out date delayed

Monday was supposed to be the move-out date for the remaining inhabitants at a White Pigeon Township mobile home community.

But, residents in the 10 remaining occupied units were given a minor reprieve, as White Pigeon Township Supervisor Don Gloy said St. Joseph County District Court Judge Jeff Middleton revised the move-out date to May 21. Ronda Loss, a resident for more than four years at River Forest Mobile Home Park, said she was told the move out date is May 31.

Regardless of which date it is, one fact is clear: water and electric service to the community – located on the south side of Fawn River Road between Scott and Crooked Creek roads – will be discontinued June 1.

Gloy said it’s his understanding that the property will be up for foreclosure auction May 24.

Another issue noted by Gloy centers on a feral cat problem in the community and a team of volunteers has assembled. The volunteers are baiting live traps in order to secure the felines, though he is not sure what will happen to the animals once they are caught.
