Centreville names new principal

Centreville Public Schools has announced its new elementary principal.

During a special meeting Monday, the district’s board of education acted on the recommendation of superintendent Stephanie Lemmer and an interview committee, and made official the hiring of Mark VenderKlok.

His employment takes effect July 1. Terms of his contract are being negotiated.

VanderKlok has spent the past eight years with Otsego Public Schools, most recently as a second-grade teacher at Alamo Elementary.

Lemmer said VanderKlok has also served in several leadership roles in the district as well as its junior varsity baseball coach. She added the VanderKlok will be enrolling his twin children in the district’s Young 5’s program.

He replaces 10-year principal Becky Stauffer, who is resigning to oversee an education-related program through Western Michigan University.
