Centreville softball team recognized for state win

Four days after claiming the Division 4 state softball crown, Centreville Bulldogs players and coaches were recognized Wednesday during the squad’s sports banquet, which doubled as a community rally.

With parents, grandparents and even fans with no ties to the school in attendance, high school principal Matt Hawkins said the team should be remembered for its character as much as for its accomplishment this season.

Hawkins said the official MHSAA-issued “state champions” banner will be unveiled at a special ceremony during the 2018-19 basketball season.

Coach Scott Logan said the Bulldogs complied an 18-0 league record en route to a 36-6 overall record, surpassing the school’s best ever season for wins by three. Centreville also had 19 shutouts, its team ERA was 1.48, and it scored 515 runs, second in the state all time.
