Fatal crash in Sturgis Township

A 20-year-old Sturgis man was killed Saturday when his motorcycle struck an SUV in the 25000 block of Fawn River Road.

Sheriff’s deputies said Juan Aguilar-Reyes was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred shortly before 3 p.m.

Deputies said Aguilar-Reyes was driving at a high rate of speed east on Fawn River Road. Law-enforcement officials saw the motorcycle passing vehicles and deputies attempted to catch up to it when they came upon the crash.

Aguilar-Reyes hit a Jeep nearly head-on as it was turning south into a driveway. Aguilar-Reyes was ejected from the bike and went through the windshield of the SUV.

The driver of the SUV, 39-year-old Marcy Gayheart of Sturgis, was airlifted to a Kalamazoo ospital for treatment of serious injuries. Her 15-year-old daughter, a front-seat passenger, was treated at Sturgis Hospital and released.

Aguilar-Reyes was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
