Several serious injuries in TR area crash

Three people were injured in a two-car accident last week on U.S. 131 in Lockport Township.

Sheriff Brad Balk said the incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Wilbur Road, where a Ford Escape, driven by 20-year-old Juan Hernandez-Espinoza, ran a red light traveling west and struck a southbound minivan, driven by 66-year-old Gary Russell.

The collision caused the minivan to go into a ditch on the west side of the road and roll over. A backseat passenger in the minivan, 32-year-old Tiffany Blum, was ejected from the vehicle when it rolled.

The vehicle then came to a rest on top of her legs. She was flown to Bronson Methodist Hospital. Two other occupants of the minivan were transported to Bronson by ambulance.

Hernandez-Espinoza was charged with multiple driving offenses, and further charges could follow, Balk said.
