William Glenn Machan, age 76, of Sturgis, passed away early Monday morning, July 2, 2018, at his home.
He was born Jan. 30, 1942, in Sturgis, a son of the late C. Glenn and Phyllis (French) Machan.
Bill was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1960. Following graduation, he had been employed by Sturgis Electric Motor and installed and removed lake docks.
In 1962, he married J. Dale Tibbots. In later years, the couple divorced.
Bill had a love and passion for boats that began when he was a teen, when he built a hydroplane. He followed his passion to New Buffalo, where he took a job with Oselka Marina and also did some work on his own. In 1978, he made a move to San Diego to work at Mission Bay Marina. He later established his own business as a ship carpenter doing custom woodworking on boats and yachts and lived on his sailboat. He returned to Sturgis in 1994 and retired from Parma Tube.
Bill loved most anything involving water, especially fishing and boating. He was a talented wood-carver and family was always very special to him.
