Joseph Alan Bessey, age 51, of Marcellus, passed away unexpectedly, early in the morning, on Monday, July 9, 2018.
Joseph was born September 23, 1966, in Paw Paw, the son of Donald A. Bessey and Mary B. Kiggins of Cassopolis.
On March 23, 1990, he married Dawn M. Weaver in Cassopolis, and together they had one daughter Jessica J.Bessey; who survive.
Also surviving: mother: Mary (Step Father: Charles) Fox, step mother: Luella Bessey, four sisters: Melita (Karl) Keeler, Mindy (Barry) Snyder, Melissa Hofer, Sandra Bessey, three step-brothers: Pete (Hannah) Hawes, Shawn Hawes, Charles (Lucinda) Fox, one step sister: Tamara (Randy) Grinage, along with several nieces and nephews, and many great- nieces and nephews.
To most, he was known as “Joe” but good friends also called him “Joe-Joe”. To his nephew Jeramy Anders he was known as “Uncle Go”. He loved hunting or fishing, riding his motorcycle, and cooking. He enjoyed his friends and family, bonfires, cookouts, taking road trips with his daughter Jessica and was always there for a buddy in need. He was a very hard worker and always on the move. Joseph worked at Northrop Logging Company in Marcellus, as a machine operator, for many years.
Joe is preceded in death by his father Donald A. Bessey in July 2014.
The family will welcome friends for a graveside service at Crane Cemetery in Volinia Township on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at 11:00 AM. Directions to Crane Cemetery from Marcellus: head west towards Dowagiac on Marcellus Hwy go 8.5 miles. Turn right onto Decatur Rd go 1.0 mile. Turn left at the first cross street onto Crane Street. Crane Cemetery will be on the right 177 feet. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bessey Family. Arrangements made at Mater-Ralston Funeral Home of Marcellus.
