Mary Nell Prpich, age 89, of Sturgis, passed away early Saturday morning, June 23, 2018, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born March 25, 1929, in Jonesboro, La., a daughter of the late Dorris and Odessa (Hall) McMahen.
Mary resided in Sturgis since 1981, coming from White Pigeon. She also lived in Paw Paw, where she and her husband owned and operated Tea Pot General Store and Gas Station.
On June 28, 1958, she married Nicholas “Nick” Prpich in Detroit. He died Aug. 28, 2006.
Mary had been employed by Ram Products in Sturgis for 11 years. She and Nick owned and operated Sirloin Inn in White Pigeon for 10 years.
She enjoyed ceramics and crafts and loved the 48 years of marriage she shared with her husband.
She is survived by an aunt, Barbara Martin of Allen; two true friends, Gladys Hoard of Burr Oak and Barbara Heffner of Three Rivers; and several cousins.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, July 9, at Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. A memorial service celebrating the life of Mary Prpich will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Private burial of the ashes will take place at Wildey Cemetery in Paw Paw Township.
In lieu of flowers, Mary’s wishes were that memorial donations be directed to Sturgis Police Department K-9 Unit, 122 N. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091.
