The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners agreed Tuesday to delay voting on a detachment petition tied to the development of a multi-field sports complex in Three Rivers.
Commissioners discussed the issue at last week’s executive committee meeting and agreed Tuesday to pull the matter from their agenda, at the recommendation of legal counsel.
The petition was filed last month by Lockport Township residents seeking the detachment of an 80-acre parcel annexed by Three Rivers to develop the facility. The property in question is bordered by Main Street to the west and Buckhorn Road to the east.
The petition asks commissioners to let the public decide the land issue through a vote.
Commissioners indicated the matter would be revisited, likely at one of its two August meetings.
