Charlotte L. “Betty” Watson, age 95, of Logan, Utah, and a former resident of Sturgis, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, at Legacy House in Logan.
She was born June 16, 1923, in Brentwood, Ark., the 11th child of Joseph Edward and Mary Etta (Pruitt) Smith.
Betty moved to Denver when she was 12 years of age. She also lived in Battle Creek for many years and eventually moved to Sturgis.
While in high school, Betty was set up on a blind date by a friend, with a man named Robert Watson. They were married at ages 18 and 20 in Battle Creek.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Monaco of Utah and Ardith Hardy of Washington; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Watson, a granddaughter, Lara Monaco; and a son-in-law, Daniel Monaco.
After her daughters were in school, Betty went to work for a large local toy store for 21 years and spoiled her grandchildren. She always was crafty, with sewing being her favorite. She has made many clothes, dolls, doll clothes, quilts and other things for her family. She also loved to read. One of her favorite memories was yearly road trips they would take as a family to various places.
Betty was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many leadership positions in her church.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints , 1111 Galyn St., Sturgis. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. at the church. Bishop Sean Peterson will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Battle Creek Memorial Park in Battle Creek.
The Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis, is entrusted with the arrangements.
