Bill MacDaniels was awarded the Outstanding Service Award at last month’s Burr Oak Heritage Days.
The honor goes to a person who makes extra effort to support the village of Burr Oak, said Sue Sturwold, a member of the selection committee.
MacDaniels’ community contributions include buying rental properties and making them into quality homes.
Several decades ago, when Burr Oak Community Schools needed a gymnasium without seeking a millage, he helped ensure it happened. MacDaniels provides jobs for local residents, Sturwold said, noting that he also supports a junior high trip to Chicago every three years.
And, when Burr Oak Garden Club buys flowers to plant throughout the village, he picks up the tab, she added.
More recently, Mac-Daniels made a major cash layout for downtown by saving abandoned buildings and creating gathering places — Whiskey Creek and Oh Bernice!
