First day for many county schools

It’s the first day of the 2018-19 academic year for most St. Joseph County school districts.

Three Rivers begins its year with a new superintendent, Ron Moag, while Sturgis also starts with first-year superintendent Art Ebert. Meanwhile, Mendon and Nottawa school districts will see Leasa Griffith and Jerome Wolff, respectively, begin their first full years as superintendent.

Though he retired in June, Jon Keyer will return to oversee White Pigeon Community Schools on a part-time basis, sharing administrative duties with Carrie Erlandson.

Penny Brockway in Colon and Stephanie Lemmer in Centreville start their second years as superintendent at their school districts, while Steve Wilson returns for his third year in Constantine.

Terry Conklin in Burr Oak remains the dean of the county’s superintendents, as he starts his 26th year in charge of St. Joseph County’s smallest school district.
