Indiana Michigan Power officials have announced a proposed final line route for the Three Rivers Transmission Line Rebuild Project.
Much of the line will be rebuilt where it is currently located, although a section of the line west of North Main Street and north of Hoffman Road will shift and run parallel to US 131.
The $13 million investment will improve the electric transmission system in St. Joseph County, company officials said. The project includes six miles of transmission line construction, plus a new substation that will allow I&M to retire an existing substation.
The existing infrastructure has reached an age where it needs to be replaced to better serve customers, according to I&M. Rebuilding the line and constructing a new substation will increase reliability to customers reducing the number of outages and shortening restoration times.
Construction is expected to start in fall and be completed by summer 2019. Landowners who are directly affected will be contacted to discuss impacts of the project. Additional information is available online at:
