An interview committee will meet with three candidates to fill an open seat on the St. Joseph County Commission On Aging Board.
During Wednesday’s county commission executive committee meeting, commissioners Al Balog and Dan Czajkowski were assigned to head the interview team. As soon as a date and times can be coordinated, the committee will interview Nottawa Township’s Judy Nelson, Constantine-area resident Nancy Stears and Burr Oak Township resident Don Eaton.
Eaton, a former county commissioner, was at the crux of Wednesday’s discussion. Commissioners on July 17 reappointed five members but not Eaton to the COA board.
The issue was revisited by county administrator Teresa Doehring at Wednesday morning’s meeting. Commissioner Al Balog conceded that Eaton has a strong personality, but his contribution to the COA board is invaluable nonetheless.
Czajkowski said the COA is on the verge of a major step forward, with the impending, $4.2 million transformation of the former Three Rivers Inn to a senior housing and COA headquarters development. Having someone with Eaton’s knowledge, experience and financing expertise is vital, he noted.
