Sports complex to add pickleball courts

The amenities at an under-construction development in Three Rivers will include a pair of pickleball courts, thanks to the family with ties to an area senior community.

Three Rivers municipal officials and enthusiasts of the tennis-like sport gathered at Kline’s Resort in Mendon Township Tuesday morning for the announcement that Paul and Joyce Kline are donating a five-figure amount. The gift will ensure two pickleball courts will be a part of the multi-field sports complex.

The Klines asked that the exact amount of the donation not be disclosed.

Phil Kline, who runs Kline’s Resort and also chipped in on the donation, said the residential community added pickleball in 2012 and it continues to be the most popular sporting event.

Three Rivers City Manager Joe Bippus said he is grateful for the Kline’s generosity and said pickleball will be an ideal addition to the sports complex. Though the game is enjoyed primarily by senior citizens, it can be played by people of all ages.

The courts, which will be fully enclosed in fencing, aren’t expected to be developed until next year.
