Two area residents were arrested following a traffic stop this week in Sturgis.
According to the Sturgis Police Department, a vehicle with improper registration was pulled over at 11:30 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 12 at White School Road.
Once the vehicle was stopped, officers discovered that the passenger was wanted on a warrant from St. Joseph County.
While placing the passenger under arrest, officers observed a clear plastic bag inside the vehicle. Officers noticed the bag contained a white, crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
Officers retrieved the bag and field tested the substance, which tested positive for methamphetamine. The 36-year-old driver, a Three Rivers resident, and 33-year-old passenger, who is from White Pigeon, denied that the methamphetamine was theirs. They were subsequently taken into custody and charged with possession of methamphetamine.
