Colon to consider Dollar General store

Speculation that Dollar General variety store has interest in establishing a store in Colon was confirmed during Tuesday’s village council meeting.

Code-enforcement officer Doug Kuhlman said the Tennessee-based company would like to build as soon as possible on the east end of town.

He said the next step for the proposal is a public hearing before the village’s planning commission. Kuhlman suggested the matter should appear before the village council for final vote after a recommendation from the planning commission.

Kuhlman said the company has already submitted its building plans and he anticipates the issue will appear before Colon’s planning commission as soon as possible, likely October.

Kuhlman said he expects the store to be about 9,100-square-feet, consistent in size with a Dollar General slated for development in Mottville Township.
