The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners earlier this month agreed to make a pair of exceptions to its hiring freeze.
Due to extenuating circumstances, commissioners agreed to a request for a deputy juvenile register and a juvenile day treatment monitor.
Sought by juvenile court director Tom Robertson, the request for a deputy juvenile register was made based on the workload juvenile court manages on a day-to-day basis. The person who most recently held the position was paid about $50,000, including benefits.
Robertson said the amount will actually be less as the person tapped to fill the position will enter at a less-senior level.
The JDT request was made based on a part-time position that had been vacated.
