A Dowagiac man who fell asleep at the wheel was injured in a single-vehicle accident earlier this week in Cass County’s Jefferson Township.
Cass County Sheriff’s officials said 31-year-old Matthew Bixby was driving west on Brownsville Street at 2:20 p.m. Monday when his vehicle went off the roadway and struck a dead tree.
After the impact, the top of the tree broke off and landed on the roof of the car. Bixby was injured in the crash but refused medical treatment.
Seatbelts were worn and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, investigators said.
