Minor injuries in Cass County crash

Cass County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded last week to the scene of a two-vehicle accident in Porter Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said the incident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of U.S. 12 and Baldwin Prairie Road.

Investigators found that 22-year-old Kyle Kauffman, of Vandalia, was driving south on Baldwin Prairie and came to a stop at the intersection of U.S. 12. Deputies said he then pulled forward and into the path of an eastbound vehicle driven by Alexander Carthans, 35, of Bristol.

A passenger in Carthans’ vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to Elkhart Memorial Hospital.

Seat belts were worn by all parties and alcohol was not a factor, authorities said.
